Betty Binns Fletcher (March 29, 1923 – October 22, 2012) was an American lawyer and judge. She served as a federal judge on the San Francisco-based United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit between 1979 and 2012. Fletcher was one of the first women to become a partner in a major American law firm and the second woman to be appointed to the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. ==Early life and education== Born in Tacoma, Washington, Fletcher attended Stanford University and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in 1942 at the age of 19. She completed one year of law school before resuming her legal education a decade later at the University of Washington School of Law, where she finished among the top of her class in 1956.
